The 18th Annual ISTE State Student Convention was successfully conducted on the 18th and 19th of January 2020, at Government Engineering College Barton Hill. It was aptly themed "Rise Above the Limits" and packed a multitude of activities and competitions that invigorated and inspired all who attended.
The inaugural ceremony was held on 18th January 2020. It was led by Dr Jayaprakash, the outstanding scientist of ISRO as the chief guest alongside the ISTE Kerala Section Chair, Dr Vijayakumar, Dr K Suresh Principal of GEC Barton Hill and Professor Jayasree P, ISTE Secretary of GEC Barton Hill.
The 18th Annual ISTE State Student Convention saw a change in format this year with the addition of talks with 8 very eminent and inspirational speakers, cultural nights and a rock band concert with the Billboard artist - Lazie J and networking session to the usual schedule alongside all of the competitions. A total of 12 events: 7 technical competitions and 5 non- technical competitions saw delegates battling out for the championship. Bridge IT, Cataclysm, Gate to Generate, Glow it or Blow it, Trojan Wave, Tech-No-Logic and Confabulous were the different technical events held. JAM, Anima, Inquizitive, Quidditch, Trig Troupe were the general events held. Events like Confabulous (contraption building), Quidditch (Harry Potter Quiz), Trig Troupe (Maths Quiz), Cataclysm (Data interpretation) and Anima (Persona) stood out based on the novelty and uniqueness of the events.
The first day saw the morning session with a talk session by the Chief Guest Dr Jayaprakash - Outstanding scientist of ISRO. Soon after this session, the delegates were given the parallel talk sessions held by Mr. Jabir Karat – CEO of Greenworms, Dr Nidhi M B – ISTE National Council Member and Team Insight. Dr Nidhi held a session exclusively for ISTE ExCom members to discuss the activities held so far and the future plans of various SC’s.A special Drone Piloting session was also arranged for the delegates. A networking session arranged during the Convention helped the delegates from different college to meet and interact with ISTE members of different colleges.
Day 2 witnessed the talk sessions by Ms. Tiffany Brar - Founder of Jyothirgamaya foundation. Later, talk sessions were held by Dr. Sathish A V - Scientific Officer at Koodamkulam Nuclear Power Plant. He talked about the “Myths & Facts about Nuclear Energy”. Another session was held parallel by Mr. Arjun B S - PhD scholar at IISc Bangalore.
The closing ceremony had Dr. Nidhi M B, ISTE National Council Member as dignitary leading it along with Dr. Suresh K, Principal GEC Barton Hill and Prof. Jayasree P, ISTE GECB Secretary. The closing ceremony witnessed the experience shared by the dignitaries, faculties and of course the students. Mr. Manu K S, Chairman ISTE SC GECB gave the report and the effort from the beginning to make this convention a big success.
The overall championship was taken by Government College of Engineering Kannur, followed by Government Engineering College Thrissur as runners up and Government Engineering College Barton Hill as the second runners up. The Best Delegate was awarded to Mr. Safvan of GCE Kannur.
The team led by Mr. Manu K S, Chairman of ISTE SC GEC Barton Hill along with Prof. Jayasree, ISTE GECB Secretary efficiently worked day and night to bring forth a change and strived hard to make an epic event within the constraints. What we stood for and what we still believe is to Rise above our limits and that is the motto we emphasized to keep for years to come.
